About Jean
Jean is a self-taught artist and a lifelong lover of visual art.
In her early 20s, she embarked upon a career in human resources management.
Thirty years later, she left HR behind and bought ‘Artifax’, a retail art gallery and picture framing business in Newbury, Berkshire and enthusiastically started her new career.
Interested in providing a high-quality conservation picture framing service, she studied to become a ‘Fine Art Trade Guild’ Certified Framer, before moving on to become an Accredited Picture Framing Trainer and eventually a Certified Examiner.
She also took every opportunity she could to learn and develop her drawing and painting skills and sold her varied work through the gallery.
When fine art printing became a feasible option for retail galleries, Jean invested in computing, scanning and wide-format printing machinery.
She was guided through the steep digital learning process by ‘Seneciodigital’, a leading fine art print provider producing work for international artists such as Damian Hirst, Anish Kapoor, and many others.
She then went on to produce giclee prints for herself and other artists.
With a preference for landscapes and an interest in graphic design, she created digital fine art travel prints of Newbury and the surrounding areas, reminiscent of British Rail travel posters of the 1920s to the 1940s.
The sought-after prints have a distinct style and cohesive colour palette that is instantly recognisable as her own.
The original paintings that Jean now produces are also the result of a considerable journey.
Through practice, ad hoc training with other artists, observation and experimentation, she tried various painting styles, techniques and subjects before eventually developing her own unique style.
Inspired by the Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire countryside, she produces abstract impressionist landscapes with the same uplifting feel, cohesive colour palette and consistent style as her digital work.
